Join DCD

DCD is seeking new members to join and to supply Dairy Crest, as it has a growing demand to source milk supplies via Liquid and Davidstow contracts. DCD represents farmer interests with Dairy Crest, the only independently financed representative group of its kind in the UK.

Logistically, Dairy Crest sources milk from Lancashire in the north, to Cornwall in the south west, and from Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Kent in the east to Pembrokeshire in the west.

With Liquid Contracts DCD is also leading the way with an independently developed milk pricing formula (with Stephen Bradley, founder of milkprices.com and regular milk price analyst/columnist in the “Dairy Farmer” magazine), adoption of the formula based pricing will be voluntary, and to apply from April 2013.

The Davidstow contract (constituent based) supplies milk to produce Cathedral City/Davidstow cheeses at the UK’s largest cheddar facility. The milk field for Davidstow supply includes all of Cornwall and has recently extended to include all of Devon to the north of the A30/M5, this extension due to increasing sales demand for Cathedral City/Davidstow cheese. According to the latest Grocer Magazine sales review for 2012, Cathedral City cheddar sales increased again through the year, branded sales now in excess of £250m and higher than the sales from the next four cheddar brands combined.

  • With Dairy Crest supply contracts there are no capital contributions, balancing changes or transport deductions.
  • Dairy Crest and DCD are working towards full integration of the Voluntary Code for Milk Supply Contracts.
  • Dairy Crest direct supply is also supported by DCD membership, account management by the local Dairy Crest fields team and farm assurance/cross compliance support provided via White Gold.
